Today and tomorrow are two special days;
Today is the Remembrance of the Dead where we, the Dutch, commemorate all civilians and members of the armed forces of the Kingdom of the Netherlands who have died in wars or peacekeeping missions since the outbreak of World War II.
Tomorrow is our Liberation Day and marks the end of the Nazi occupation during World War II.
From what I remember when I was little, we always had our two minutes of silence in the household and watched the ceremonies on television and on may 5th, we’d always have a street market on our street where each household with children would sell children’s toys for charity.
