Movie Preview: Room in Rome

This post was originally written by me and posted on eurOut and re-posted here with permission.

I don’t know about you all, but when I watch lesbian sex, be it in a movie, television show, or the uh, ‘other variety’, I like it hot, I like it sexy, I like it raw, but most of all, I like it realistic.

See how I avoided the ‘real’ word? The on-screen variety of lesbian sex is never real, not even in that ‘other variety’, it is still acting after all, but if there is one thing that I appreciate, it is the effort people put in to make it look realistic, like the people in the situation make it look like they’re really into the other person and are committed in bringing the best they can to the screen.

So when I heard there was a trailer out for the upcoming movie Room in Rome (Habitación en Roma), that had people watching it multiple times before running to the cold shower, I knew I had to check it out.

I can tell you I was not disappointed.

We’ll get back to that a little later. See how I’m building up the tension? Trust me; you’ll thank me for it later. Room in Rome revolves around “two women who meet in Rome and share a night of lust” in one of their hotel rooms.

Room in Rome

While the movie is set in Rome and it is not the actresses’ native language, the movie is mostly shot in English, save for a little dialogue here and there (Russian and Spanish if I heard correctly in the trailer). Something the lovers of accents all around will surely appreciate.

Now, let me tell you a little about this trailer and movie that has everyone so hot and… well, hot and it is absolutely NSFW, or any public place but the privacy of your own room, preferably bathroom, because you’ll need that cold shower right after.

Based on Matias Bize’s ‘In the Bed’, Room in Rome is Julio Médem’s first English-language film. In the Bed tells the story of a man and a woman sharing a night of passion and secrets. And if the trailer is anything to go by, Julio Médem promises us exactly that, except this time it is between two women and the décor is set in Rome.

The women are Natasha, played by Natasha Yarovenko, and Alba, played by Elena Anaya and the two are absolutely gorgeous together.

Room in Rome

You know what; I’ll let you be the judge of that. Remember though… NSFW or uh, any place but your bathroom with the cold shower already running. Or you know, watch it with your girlfriend. Heck, watch it with your boyfriend, I’m sure it’ll have the same effect on him as it has on you.

In The Spotlight: Katie Marie

Since British singer/songwriter Katie Marie was six years old she´s had a passion, she would call it an obsession, for music. She began playing the piano and got into songwriting. “I just loved having the creating space to work with.”

The piano wouldn’t be the only instrument she would play. When she was 13 year old, she started learning to play the guitar, which would accompany Katie on her first appearances when she was 16 years old. A year later Katie decided she also wanted to play the bass and drums and she taught herself. When she was 18 years old, Katie worked as a professional artist with several bands and played four to five nights a week, which she says on her website, “…were great fun to do.”

She started promoting her own music about seven years ago, and she got more highlights from that. She’s been featured in many interviews in local and mainstream radio and television performances, including Live Acoustic Concerts on BBC Radio Devonian and Gemini FM. In addition to that, Katie got interviewed by well known magazines such as Maverick.

In The Spotlight: the Sounds

When I was asked to write a portrait about the new wave band The Sounds, the first thing that came to mind was thinking that it was a little pretentious calling themselves The Sounds. That was before I gave their songs a listen, and now I can honestly say they have every right to call themselves The Sounds.

Consisting of Maja Ivarsson, Felix Rodriguez, Johan Bengtsson, Jesper Anderberg and Frederik Nilsson, the band hails from Sweden and was founded in the city Helsingborg in 1999 by Rodriguez and Bengtsson, who wanted to form a group amongst their high school friends.

They enlisted Nilsson on the drums and out bisexual singer Maja Ivarsson as their lead singer (who was also named as one of the ‘Hottest Women Of Rock’ in Blender magazine). While at Hultsfred Festival, they met Anderberg by chance and thought he’d be a perfect fit.

They recorded their debut album Living in America in Stockholm with producer Adel Dahdal, who is a songwriter and producer with an impressive track record. He produced Dutch band Krezip’s album Plug It In. An album that was actually inspired by the sound of The Sounds and has Krezip’s lead singer Jacqueline Govaert collaborating with Anderberg and Rodriguez on several songs. Most notably All My Life, one of the most played singles in the Netherlands in 2008. Continue reading ‘In The Spotlight: the Sounds’

In The Spotlight: Fagget Fairys

Those people that know me know that I have a strong dislike for any type of club music, but I get fairly addicted to it because of the damn good beats that come with the songs. Such is the case with Feed the Horse (click here for the video). The song isn’t actually about feeding horses, but references to a sexual act. Yes, I was as naive as you. Feed the Horse is the love child of Danish queer duo Fagget Fairys.

Fagget Fairys consists of 19 year old Ena (who is a Muslim, a model, a club kid and a pretty darn good bad ass) and Carla Cammilla Hjort, known professionally as DJ Sensimilla, who is ten years her senior. The two met briefly at Vega, a Copenhagen nightclub, and Ena was so smitten with the DJ that, in an attempt to impress her, she stage dived from the DJ booth and ended up with 15 (!) stitches and a busted knee. Ouch. Continue reading ‘In The Spotlight: Fagget Fairys’

In The Spotlight: Edith Fambuena

At eurOut we like to put the attention on people that are unknown to the masses. That may be a singer, dancer, actor or any other artist that deserves the spotlight. Sometimes we have to do more than a little digging on the internet to find out more about this person. Such was the case with Edith Fambuena; a singer/songwriter, and occasional actor, extraordinaire.

Looking on the internet there was not a whole lot to find, but after some help (thanks Natazzz!) there was enough to formulate a decent profile of this lovely lady, though a lot of it is inspired by the success of her collaboration with Jean-Louis Pierot.

Edith, the daughter of local shopkeepers in the south of France, has had a passion for music that started at a young age. In her mid teens she met Jean-Louis Pierot, son of two teachers and from the same area as Edith. They discovered that they both had the same passion for music and shared a similar taste in music, which revolved largely around the Velvet Underground.
