Pussy Out In the Cold

For the entire day I had been in and out of the house dealing with groceries and appointments. On one of the trips IN the house I had gone upstairs to wash a few pots and pans when I heard a cat meowing. It was just this little faint sound in the background and I dismissed it as being from one of the neighbors’ cats.

As I continued the dishes, I heard the meowing again but this time louder and definitely close by. I looked out the window but did not see anything on a first glance, I opened the door and the meowing started again, LOUDLY. I looked down (we have open stairs leading to the ground, our kitchen is a few feet in the air) and there I saw this little head peek up at me.

And there was the kitten I had seen the day before. I noticed the kitten walking in the backyard yesterday, but didn’t think nothing of it because there are cats walking in and out of our garden all the time and I hadn’t been able to asses its size since it darted under the fence. But I knew the way it looked, the color and it was the same kitten as before.

The meowing just broke my heart into tiny little pieces. It seemed that this little thing didn’t have a home and probably had stayed out all night. I opened my door and it just ran is as fast as it could and settled under the heater. Yup, this kitten had definitely spent the night out.

I gave it a little water and something to eat and it practically swallowed everything without chewing, apparently it hadn’t been eating either. I scooped her up and she immediately settled into my arms. Luckily it was a friendly little thing. I grabbed the carrier I have for the rabbits and put the kitten in there with a towel to keep it warm and brought her to the animal shelter.

It broke my heart to do this, but I didn’t know if she was chipped or not, or if the owner hadn’t yet been able to or if it was just lost and they were looking for her. When I got to the shelter they said it was a little girl, checked if she was chipped, which she wasn’t and informed me that she couldn’t have been more then A MONTH OR SO OLD. Yup, it was just a tiny little thing, well not exactly TINY, TINY she was big for her age. But they said no older then a month or so.

I gave her my info just in case they needed to know more on where I found her and then I asked what they were gonna do with her and they said that she was going into a foster family with another kitten about the same age who was already there. That kitten was the last one to be there so otherwise she would have been all alone at the shelter because she couldn’t be placed with the bigger and older cats yet.

I’m glad that they were able to do that and I’m hopeful that she will be going to a good home. She commended me for getting the kitten to a shelter. Apparently not a lot of people do that and just keep them or let them roam the street. I wasn’t about to. There COULD have been a chance she was chipped which could have reunited with her human family, and staying out another night in the cold. Nope, no way I was going to let that happen either.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to keep her myself, but if I was allowed I would have fostered her and possibly adopt. I am just glad she found a good foster home where she can build up her strength and immune system.

How’s Life you say? Pretty Darn Okay I answer

For the past year and month or so I have been in therapy. I have been battling depression and OCD and I can finally say that I am kicking the depression’s ass. I have been for a little while now and in fact I am so far along that in about six months I should be done with therapy. That is what I am hoping for anyway.

But before that happens, the integration back in to society will happen. I’ve already got the part of going to a gym down, now comes the getting a new place and getting a job. I’m still not quite sure what I want to do. Everyone has opted for Children’s Day Care again, but I can’t see myself back there again. And I was definitely not planning on working in a store or something like that.

I might be thinking of doing some volunteer work, but I need to figure out if the social security people are okay with that, since I am still getting paid via them. I’d definitely volunteer at an animal shelter, which, coincidentally also resides on my 101 in 1001 list.

And some may kick me for saying this, but I am actually, genuinly interested in how certain people from my past are doing. I think I’m not made to keep grudges against people no matter how much I think they hurt me. Well actually that is not true, I am indifferent towards my father. But you can’t ask me to take the first step, that would be like kicking myself in the shins several times.

Alright that is enough for now. I leave you all with a cute picture of Lucky Charlie:

Lucky Charlie

The Story of the Cockatiel in love with the feet

There once was a Cockatiel named Lucky Charlie. He was a handsome fella, and quite the charmer. On a day in May he had to move because his owners were going on a long road trip through America. He ended up with this girl named Chantal, who adores animals and had a Cockatiel when she was younger.

The days went by and Lucky Charlie started getting used to his new home and started noticing Chantal’s feet. Her feet you say? Yes, her feet. Lucky Charlie was completely enamored with Chantal’s feet. Everywhere she walked he followed, hopping all over the floor. Talking to her feet, even kissing it. Even now, after a week, he is still completely in love.

Meet Lucky Charlie

A couple of friends asked me to take care of their Cockatiel Lucky Charlie (call name Charlie). They are going on a trip for the next six months and couldn’t take him with them.

is it over yet

This is going to be a post with me, for the most part, complaining. Since last Wednesday I had this literal pain in the neck. Maybe it is from stress, tension, working out, who knows. All I know is that it fucking hurts. I can move my head to the left perfectly fine, but when I try to move it to the right I get this SHOOTING pain that makes me whip my head back. I’m lucky I didn’t get a whiplash over it. I’ve also been sneezing a lot these past two days (and I don’t even have hay fever) which is like a slap on the neck

Other than that, I’m pretty much okay.

Had a busy day yesterday; Binkers (or rather Binkie, his real name) had to be castrated. Nerve wrecking for all of us. Bello was walking around in his cage nervously as was I. No, not in the cage silly ones, just the walking around part. By noon came the call that Binkie was doing fine and everything went as planned and I could pick him up about two hours later. The now ex-male was pretty groggy when he came back and sat still for quite some time.

He slowly got some of quirkiness back an hour or so later and slowly started walking around, eating some of the carrot I had given him. This was quite a relief because rabbits need to eat within 12 hours of an operation otherwise their intestines get in trouble. He almost immediately started eating hay, which is good. As long as he is eating hay, it is a good sign. I did have to force him to have something to drink since I had not seen him do that yet, then again, I’m not with him every minute of the day, but this is just to make sure he gets some water in him.

He also peed and pooped already (though the pooping was slightly less, but he’s never been that big of a pooper), which is another good sign. Let’s hope he keeps this up! Here’s a picture of the little one.

The Bunnies Update

I just spent two hours figuring out the placement for the bunnies. Binkie and Bello BOTH escaped this morning when Binkie somehow lifted the barrier and it came loose. Of course this meant that Binkie spent the free time chasing after Bello, who was knackered at the end and more then a little afraid.

Now the setting is so that Binkie and Bello have the minimum possibility of contact without taking it away completely. The main reason for this is that Binkie gets INCREDIBLY fired up with hormones whenever Bello gets close.

Let’s hope this time they won’t break loose.

Bunny Sunday

I thought I’d put up a new topic for Sundays; the brothers Binkie and Bello. I wrote about them before, but thought I’d give it an every Sunday run, I know some people have been asking for more information on them.

Currently the boys are having a little family feud. Binkies hormones have started going off earlier then expected and he has been chasing and biting Bello ever since, which means I had to seperate the two. I bought another, smaller, cage.

As you can see I stil kept the cages close to each other. The one that is the busiest during the day will go in the bigger blue cage at night because it’ll be the quiter one and of course the quiet one will have the run of the place.

As soon as I get the money together, both of them will be castrated and after their healing period I will get them reacquainted and hopefully Binkie will be a lot nicer to Bello then he is now, and hopefully Bello will stay as nice as he is now and not so afraid of Binkie.

And yet another Vet visit

It seems that the brothers (Binkie and Bello) are more of the worry bunnies then Angel† ever was. Sure, Angel† had her problems now and then, but they were mostly with her poop then anything else. So far Bello has had a hint of fleas and an earmite and now Binkie has some kind of weird bump just below his ribs, it is actually a small mass, and you can take a hold of it between two fingers.

He doesn’t feel anything (unless you squeeze it, which I accidentally did). The skin where the bump is, is red/purple-ish, but it’s not a rash. I made an appointment with the Vet so we’ll see what he says.
