I love telemarketers

Have you ever filled in a questionnaire hoping to win something as little as a gift certificate? I have. I enjoy doing those. You just fill in ‘no’ everywhere and be done with it, unless it is about something you really care about.

Having done many of those it is not rare that I get calls from the people I filled it out for. Had another one of those today.

Her “Hello, this is…. from…”
Me “Hi”
Her “You filled in a questionnaire a little while ago is that correct?”
Me “yes it is”
Her “in it you said you rent”
Me “yes I did”
Her “and you said you were interested in buying?”
Me “No I didn’t”
Her “Oh”
… silence …
Me “Ma’am?”
Her “Well oh okay, sorry for bothering you.”
Me “No bother at all”

Best. Telemarketing Call. Ever.

I swear she was silent for a whole minute. Must be a newbie.

  • LOL! When Ilived in the US, I had people calling me to offer free delivery of the Daily News… and every time I refused! One day, this woman was really trying to get me into accepting the paper for a whole month, for free! and I still refused. And then she said: Why not? it is free!!!
    Me: I don’t know how to read!….
(Silence) oh ok… thanks. And the NEVER called me again!
Another saturday morning, right at 9 am the phone rang, it was some charity for the police force to ask for donations, for what I heard on his introduction. Then he said: How are you doing this morning, M’am?
me: YOU tell me! You woke me up!!
Him: Oh I’m so sorry… ah I guess you wont be making a donation…?
ME: You better erase my name from your list right now. Thanks you.
Here in Germany, telemarketers are easier to handle, because the moment they call, I ask right away: Do you speak English? Most of them don’t and hang up!
I hope I never have to work in that industry.
