The Dental Files (part 3)
Oh yes, here we are again. Another Dental File. Today I went for my second appointment at my own dentist. The nerves were slightly less then last time but the annoyance of going to a dentist where at its highest.
Today he decided not to put a permanent filling in the tooth that had the root canal, but he decided to work on the broken tooth I had on the left side and a small hole I had on the tooth next to it.
Sucker Punch
You know for him and hist assistant being such nice people they sure can scare the life out of you the nicest way possible.
Today I had the upper left front side sedated. Let me tell you, that numb tongue I was feeling last time is nothing compared to the bump and closed nose feeling I have now. This definitely is the weirdest thing ever. The left side of my nose feels closed off as if I had a cold. Inside my mouth it feels like there’s still one of those cottons left under the left side of my lip.
Paul decided to see if he could save the nerve of this tooth. This, luckily, was only one canal he had to clean, compared to the frigging four he had to do last time. While he was working on that tooth he also decided to work on the little hole that was in the tooth next to it and get that part over with. He didn’t tell me but I couldn’t care less what the heck he was doing as long as he hurried up.
This time the tooth was a bit more sensitive then the last one and I, at times, clearly felt something while he was drilling away. After that came the ‘protect the nerve’ part or as I’d like to call it “WTF are you doing?” part where he put a layer of something over the nerve and cover it. After that he put the filling in place and made the finishing touches (make the damn tooth look like an actual tooth).
On the bus home I had a couple of “holy crap” moments where a stinging sensation went through the nerve. Much like getting stung by a needle, but on a nerve and ten times more painful. Thankfully they were only a couple of moments and by the time I got home the only real pain I had left was the tingling sensation from the sedation and the ‘bruising’ from working on my mouth.
I can absolutely not wait till October 30th… my next appointment.
Wow sounds almost as scary as my appointment. I went to get a root canal and the first visit a week ago today wasn’t so bad until the next day. Then i woke up and wanted to go bury my head as the pain was unbearable. It was a molar, and hurt like h…. Well it continued to hurt until i went back to see him on Friday. Then he continued to drill and fill for three more hours, then the feeling started to come back and he didnt stop. To make matters worse he burnt me when he was applying something called gutta percha to fill the tooth. The tool he was using fell on my lip and caused a severe burn. I am in more pain now than i was in the beginning. I am not going back and am seriously thinking of having the tooth pulled. Good luck.
